Extra cash for increased Kirklees pothole squads

Extra cash for increased Kirklees pothole squads

COUNCILLORS have come up with extra cash to tackle the massive number of potholes on Huddersfield roads.

The extra money – likely to be hundreds of thousands of pounds – was confirmed last night.

Councillors released the cash from Kirklees Council’s contingency funds to tackle the shocking state of the roads after the snow and ice.

Work was starting today on the desperately-needed repairs.

And there will be 10 teams of highways workers out on the roads, compared to the normal two on pothole duties.

Days of sub zero temperatures have led to damaged roads, some of which are priority routes across the district.

The boost to Highways from contingency funds means that the repairs can be carried out urgently with extra teams putting the damaged roads right.
